Gratitude for the New Year and the Future of the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund

Writer: Marie Dunn Marie Dunn

As we enter the new year, it's a time for reflection, appreciation, and a renewed commitment to the values that shape our communities. This year, we are incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support that has allowed the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund to continue serving those in need. As we look forward to the future, there is much to celebrate—and even more to accomplish.

The Spirit of Gratitude

Gratitude has the power to uplift and inspire. In times of joy and challenge alike, the simple act of appreciating what we have and what others contribute strengthens bonds and fuels collective action. The Albert Dunn Memorial Fund, named in honor of a beloved community leader, embodies this spirit of giving and gratitude. Over the years, the Fund has been a beacon of hope for families in need, providing helpful help in areas such as food security and education.

This year, as we begin 2025, the Fund's mission remains more critical than ever. We are deeply thankful for the donors, volunteers, and community partners who make its work possible. Without their generosity, we couldn't support many individuals and families who rely on these resources to navigate difficult times. The strength of our community shines brightest when we come together with a common purpose: to uplift and support one another.

The Albert Dunn Memorial Fund's Impact

The Fund has had a profound impact on the local community. Since its inception, it has provided critical financial assistance to hundreds of needy individuals and families, helped fund educational scholarships, and facilitated access to vital services such as food and financial support. The community food drive held on January 27, 2024, saw 100 families receiving food packages. In September 2024, four students received financial scholarships totaling $140,000, and a monetary donation of a total of $60,000 was given to Golden Grove All Age School to assist with replacing needed bookshelves for the classrooms. These are not just numbers, but real lives touched and changed. It's not just about the financial contributions—it's about how every donation, volunteer hour, and act of kindness connects people and strengthens our community. This is the impact of your support, and it's something we can all be proud of.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund is set to expand its reach and deepen its impact. We have plans to increase access to services, broaden our outreach efforts, and continue fostering a culture of giving. These efforts are rooted in the belief that when we care for one another, we build a future where no one is left behind. We invite you to be a part of this journey.

The Annual Community Food Drive: January 25, 2025

The Annual Community Food Drive, scheduled for January 25, 2025, is a highlight of our year and a crucial part of the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund's efforts to combat food insecurity. This year's event promises to be one of the most significant and impactful yet. With the support of family, friends, and local businesses, we aim to collect and distribute food to needy families. We encourage you to join us in this important initiative.

The food drive provides non-perishable items, fresh produce, and essential pantry staples to those facing hardship. The event brings together family and friends from all to contribute meaningfully. It's a powerful reminder that even the smallest gesture can impact someone's life. Volunteers will be on hand to help sort and package food.

How You Can Help

As we approach the Annual Community Food Drive, there are many ways you can get involved. Your involvement is not just appreciated, but it's integral to the success of our mission:

  • Donate Food: Contributions of non-perishable items, canned goods, and fresh produce are always needed. Consider organizing a food drive at your workplace, school, or local business to help maximize donations.

  • Monetary Contributions: Financial donations help us purchase food and other essentials critical to meeting families' needs. Every dollar counts and goes directly to supporting the drive.

  • Spread the Word: Share the event details with your network and encourage others to participate. The more people we can reach, the more families we can help.

As part of the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund's ongoing mission to support and uplift the community, the Financial Support Scholarship is one of the key initiatives designed to assist students in Jamaica. This scholarship aims to ease the financial burden of educational expenses for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue their educational aspirations. On September 1, 2025, academic year, the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund will again offer this scholarship to students demonstrating financial need and educational potential.

Looking Ahead: A Future Built on Gratitude

As we look to the future, the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund remains steadfast in its mission to build a community where everyone can access the resources they need to thrive. With continued support, we can further expand our reach and ensure that no one goes without the necessities of life. In a world of uncertainty, gratitude and kindness will continue to serve as guiding lights.

The Albert Dunn Memorial Fund is more than just a charitable organization; it is a testament to the power of community. As we embark on another year of service, we are reminded of how far we have come and how much more we can achieve when we come together with gratitude and a shared commitment to making a difference.

Let's continue to inspire, support, and uplift each other—not just during this food drive but every day of the year. Together, we can create a future of hope, compassion, and opportunity for all. Happy New Year and thank you for your ongoing support of the Albert Dunn Memorial Fund.
